Rosie’s Variety Show
Were you able to watch Rosie O’Donnell’s new variety show on NBC? It was an attempt at reviving the failing network, by bringing back old school entertainment. The show had songs and dances on prime time. Not the kind of songs and dances you see on that quirky series like Eli Stone. It was songs and dances of the vaudeville kind, like how they deliver entertainment back in the 50’s or 60’s.
Aside from that, there were also bits of stand-up comedy, novelty musical acts, garish costumes and set designs, the whole she-bang. All that was lacking was a fat lady singing at the end of the show. Wait a minute…I think there was some of that, too.
Unfortunately, hopes to revive this genre were crushed when the ratings returned overnight, for the show only earned no more than 1.2Million in the preliminary adults 18-49 bracket. The show probably premiered at the wrong time (it’s the night before Thanksgiving, people are busy traveling back home to families!). That, or this whole idea actually sucked.
