As most programs are on hiatus this holiday season, I am taking this time to catch up on some programs I’ve missed. I will recommend a few women centered TV shows you and I can indulge in during the holiday break.
I have yet to watch a complete series of Roswell, actually. And if you’re trying to catch up on your viewing, this one is quite short, running at three seasons only.
This series was quite popular among young adults back in 1999 from 2002.
Roswell starred Shiri Appleby, Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl (before she became a big earning TV star of Grey’s Anatomy), Brendan Fehr and Majandra Delfino.
It’s a story of three “people” who come from an alien planet and is discovered by a regular high school girl who has promised to keep their secret. They eventually forge friendships, like normal teenagers do, while the “aliens” try to find a way to return home.
The Roswell DVD details are available here .

Caroline In The City ran from 1995 to 1999. I remember that I used to watch this show’s reruns back to back with Mad About You on cable TV.
I hardly remember most of the scenes and stories from this comedy. But I do recall that Caroline works as a cartoonist and that it had the usual storyline — single girl living in New York, finding herself, true love and true friends.
All the more reason for me to kick back with a DVD this holiday — to recapture a show I used to enjoy watching over a decade ago.
The first season DVD was just released last August. You can check the details of it here .

Ellen, a sitcom which starred Ellen Degeneres as Ellen Morgan, aired from 1994 to 1998. It was a series about a single thirty-something woman coping with the insanities of single-blessedness.
The show had an amazing cast of funny people — Steven Gilborn and Alice Hirson played Ellen’s parents. Joely Fisher, Arye Gross, David Anthony Higgins, Clea Lewis and Jeremy Piven all played Ellen’s friends.
If anything, this was like a female version of Seinfeld.
The show was originally called “These Friends Of Mine” .
In its fourth season, Ellen, the character, came out to the world as a lesbian, much like Ellen, the actor, did. In it’s fifth season, the show’s direction changed and dealt more with Ellen’s life as a lesbian…and thus began its ratings decline, which was pretty sad considering, all biases aside, the show was truly entertaining and funny.
The good thing though is, you can catch up on Ellen through DVDs. Check for the details here.

The Secret World of Alex Mack was an early 90’s series that ran on Nickelodeon. I was well into college when Alex Mack aired. Its target audience was young teenagers, but I couldn’t let it pass when I get the chance to catch it on TV.
It’s about a young girl who met an accident that gave her mysterious powers like zapping things, moving objects with her mind, and I think I remember her transforming into something gooey at one point, but I am not too sure about that.
Watching this show again will help me remember all the fun things Alex Mack was about.
The series ran for four years and after more than a decade, its first DVD set, for the complete first season, is now out. DVD details are here.

The Sarah Jane Adventures is not aired anywhere on network American TV, since this is a British Production for the BBC. It’s a spin-off from the cult favorite, Doctor Who, with the former companion of The Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, as its lead character.
If you are familiar with the original show, then you’d know that this is a sci-fi adventure series. But Sarah Jane’s themeline is more focused on being more appealing to younger children, with its incredible stories and exciting escapades.
The Sarah Jane Adventures’ first season is now out on DVD (North American Release). You can check for its details here.

I have tried watching this series when it was running on ABC Family over the summer. But I couldn’t get passed the early episodes. That’s not saying this show is bad. Because it isn’t. I just don’t think I am its audience. I watched only for curiosity, because I wanted to see Molly Ringwald who plays the pregnant teen’s mom.
is created by Brenda Hampton, whose main credit is for giving us 7th Heaven. Her new show actually has the 7th Heaven feel to it. It’s a drama series about families coming together in order to cope with a teen pregnancy.
Shailene Woodley stars as Amy Juergens stars the good-girl, geeky smart and talented teenager who unexpectedly got pregnant when she hooked up with a major hottie at band camp.
The time I was watching it, Amy still hasn’t told her mom nor the father of the baby. Which is why I wanna follow through with watching this. I’m curious as to how they dealt with it.
The DVD to Secret Life of an American Teenager will be up for release by the end of this year. Details are on this site , if you’re interested.

During holiday breaks a couple of years back, our local TV channel usually runs a marathon of one season of Charmed. I was able to play catch up on the show because of it. But I did actually miss a few other seasons. Especially after it looked like the Power of Three became the Power of Four with the arrival of the sisters’ cousin. Admittedly, my favorite seasons had been when Shannen Doherty was still in the cast.
Charmed aired from 1998 to 2006. It’s a story about three sisters with bewitching powers which they’ve come to possess when they all got older.
When Prue, the eldest sister dies and thereby cutting the principle of the Power of Three, they two remaining siblings learned they have a half-sister, Paige, who was instrumental to continuing the sisters’ fight against warlocks and demons that apparently roam this earth.
Charmed is out with a Deluxe Edition Limited DVD. You can check for the details of it here .

On December 14th, TV actress, Anne Dudek gave birth to a healthy boy weighing seven ounces. She named her first born, Akiva. The actress is married to her Mad Men co-star, Matthew Heller.
I wasn’t aware Anne Dudek was pregnant while doing three shows last season (Big Love, Mad Men and House). In effect, the baby was actually on three shows.
I have only seen her play Amber on House last season. Her guest appearance made such a huge, huge impact on the series that I was actually hoping she got a shot at the Emmy’s last September (she wasn’t nominated though).
Akiva’s arrival is certainly the best Christmas gift for this couple.
Congratulations to Anne and Matthew!

It looks like a good idea on power. It sounds like it could actually work. But the more I think about it, the more I’m inclined to say — this is going to end up being a silly production.
I’m talking about Fox’s plan to make this new comedy-drama called, Bitches. It’s about four women living in New York City. Now, before you can say, “Sex and The City copycat!” these women are nothing like Carrie, Sam, Miranda and Charlotte. The women on Bitches are actual werewolves!!! They transform from lovely women to dangerous beasts during certain times of the month and you probably know when that is.
And yes…you can laugh now.
Whatever is up with this network executives? I don’t know. But does this seem like a good idea to you, or did someone had too much tequila at the office Christmas party before going to the boardroom to pitch this?
Here is the full news story from THR :
Talk about a hairy “Sex and the City.”
The Fox network is developing “Bitches,” a dramedy about a quartet of female friends in New York who are werewolves.
The project, which has received a script plus penalty commitment from the network, hails from feature writer Michael Dougherty and Warner Bros. TV.
TV writing duo Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts have come on board to supervise Dougherty. The two also will serve as executive producers alongside Dougherty if the project, described as a quirky urban fairy tale, goes to series.
“Bitches” continues the werewolf theme from Dougherty’s recent horror flick “Trick ‘r Treat.”
2009 is shaping up to be a big year for werewolves with the release of the Benicio del Toro-starring remake of “The Wolfman” and the “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”
WMA-repped Dougherty’s writing credits also include “Superman Returns” and “X2: X-Men United.”
Berg and Harberts recently served as co-exec producers on the ABC/WBTV series “Pushing Daisies.” The duo, repped by ICM and attorney Gretchen Bruggeman Rush, also created/exec produced the WB’s “Pepper Dennis.”
