Paula Marshall is a Show Killer No More
TV fans have been unkind to Paula Marshall over the last few years. Because many of her shows ended up getting canceled abruptly, the actress has been unduly dubbed as a “Show Killer”.
I have read of forum discussions casting doubts on whether a new show finds success or not based solely on one thing — if Paula is part of the ensemble, it wasn’t gonna stay on the schedule for very long.
But with her current program, Gary Unmarried (with Jay Mohr) airing on CBS, it seems the curse has been lifted. Though it’s not exactly critically acclaimed, the comedy series is holding its own. I’ve started watching it myself and I was getting more and more hooked by it. It isn’t The Office or 30 Rock, far from it, really. But I do get loads of laugh from time to time. Sometimes the simplest, less sophisticated comedies work, too.
And it seems as though Paula has found the right project and the right chemistry with her male lead.
Says, Paula in this interview with the Boston Herald :
“I’m going to get T-shirts made that say ‘Paula Marshall is Not a Show Killer.’ I’m trying to make a living and trying to pay my bills just like everybody else.When I produce, write and star in a show, then you can blame me. When I’m fifth banana on ‘Out of Practice,’ I don’t think you can blame me. I do not think I’m bad luck.”
