Watch Gilmore Girls This Holiday
As most programs are on hiatus this holiday season, I am taking this time to catch up on some programs I’ve missed. I will recommend a few women centered TV shows you and I can indulge in during the holiday break.
My first recommendation starts with a dose of the Gilmore Girls. This mother and daughter drama aired from 2000 to 2007, the daughter literally grew up right before our eyes.
Gilmore Girls stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel who play Lorelai Gilmore and Rory Gilmore respectively.
As a mother, Lorelai is quite the free-spirit who becomes a very young mother at sixteen. Now raising her own teenager, Lorelai is a pretty cool mom, but sometimes acts less mature than her own child. Although, her lovely daughter, Rory, who at times is the more serious one of the Gilmore Girls, has the same spunk as her mother… which makes it more difficult for Lorelai to raise her (she’s got her mother’s spirit!).
The relationship between this two is a joy to watch. Seldom do we find mothers and daughters on television who treat each other like best friends, who can talk about contemporary stuff and pop culture knowledge. These girls bond, fight and make-up like crazy.
The seven seasons that this show ran chronicle their struggles and triumphs together. They meet new people, build and break new relationships, but in the end, they always have each other.
Last I heard of the show after it ended in 2007 — creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was planning to do a two hour reunion TV-movie in the next couple of years.
The Gilmore Girls complete series is available on DVD. Check for details here .
