ABC Brings Lauren Graham Back To TV

Published by Rachel under New To TV Edit This

Lauren Graham

Former Gilmore Girl star, Lauren Graham, is returning on television via this new comedy series which ABC has approved yesterday. The comedy series entitled, Let It Go, is a single camera comedy about a woman who is famous as a self-help guru, but goes through one hell of a coping period when she was unfortunately dumped by the man she loves.

The show will be written by Alex Herschlag whose had served several years as writer for Will and Grace.

Lauren Graham will serve as producer of the series. Her last TV show, Gilmore Girls, was canceled in 2007. But nevertheless, it had quite a cult following among women, consequently putting Graham as one of the more well-loved TV actress in this decade.

ABC Brings Two New Women Centric Shows

Published by Rachel under New To TV Edit This

ABC NetworkABC has just green lighted two drama series with female characters in the main lead.

The first series, called Inside The Box, is based on a drama series taking place in a Washington news bureau. It will center on female news producers.

The second series, I, Claudia, may be a play on I, Claudius, but this one is actually a contemporary drama about Claudia McIntire, a young and promising prosecutor who is being groomed to be the future president of the United States.

These shows have been ordered to pilot, which will then have to be tested with an audience to determine if it’s going to pick up with the viewing public.

Lisa Kudrow’s Genealogy-themed Reality Show in April

Lisa Kudrow

Highly anticipating this Lisa Kudrow produced Reality TV show for NBC called Who Do You Think You Are?

Set to begin on Mondays at 8 PM, April 20th, the program is actually based on a British series. The show will feature big named celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Susan Sarandon, as they try to trace back their family trees…which sounds like fun, sentimental and maybe highly emotional. NBC says there is no other program quite like Think today and promises this to be personal but entertaining.

Lisa Kudrow won’t be in it, I suppose. But she is a big part of this show as the executive producer.

I wonder though if she will have her former Friends star in it, too. That would be lovely to watch!

Samantha Who? Moves To Thursday Nights

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Samantha Who?

Some schedule changes are in order for ABC, the Disney-owned television network.

Samantha Who?, the series starring Christina Applegate, is moving to Thursday Nights at 8:30 PM, and will be paired back to back with In The Motherhood, which comes on at 8:00 PM. Motherhood is this new TV program starring Megan Mullally, Cheryl Hines and Horatio Sanz.

The move and the pair up sounds like a good plan. Samantha Who? has quite a following with its demographics. It should serve as good support for the freshman series starring Mullally.

Meanwhile, because of this changes, bumped off the schedule is the America Ferrera comedy, Ugly Betty, which will be placed on hiatus. There is no scheduled date as to when it will return as of yet.

The changes will take place March 26th.

Someone Give Taraji P. Henson a TV Part

Published by Rachel under TV Women We Admire Edit This

Taraji P. Henson

Would you believe that despite being nominated for an acting award in numerous award giving bodies, for her role in Benjamin Button, Taraji P. Henson is currently out of work? The actress, who has been getting rave reviews playing Brad Pitt’s adoptive mom in the critically hailed movie, said this when recently speaking with the press:

“Actually… no. I can’t wait to write my memoir someday and talk about this moment in my life - my name is being bounced around the Oscars, Golden Globes, and all these awards, it’s incredible. And I don’t have a job. Nothing. The industry is really slow right now because of the pending strike, so I am at a standstill. It’s funny that I have all these things going on and no work in sight. It’s very shaky out here.”

I hope someone from television sees this opportunity and takes her for a guest appearance role or the lead!

Taraji crossed my radar while I was watching Eli Stone’s past few episodes this season, where she appeared as recurring guest and without knowing her work on Benjamin Button first, I was already so very impressed with her performance.  She played the daughter of Eli’s secretary who got into trouble with the law. Oh, how I loved her delivery there, she was wonderful.

Watch one of her scenes on Eli Stone:

Molly Ringwald Pregnant With Twins

Published by Rachel under TV Gal Pal News Edit This

Molly RingwaldOn The Secret Life of An American Teenager, Molly Ringwald plays such a phenomenal woman who is still trying to get past her husband’s affair, coping with her Mother’s alzheimer’s and dealing with her 15-year old daughter’s pregnancy.

In real life, Molly Ringwald is a happily married 40 year old woman to 33 year old Panio Gianopoulos, with the cutest five year old daughter named Mathilda, and is due to give birth to her second child…or children. The family is having twins this coming August. Real life it seems is complete.

Her real-life pregnancy though won’t be incorporated to the show. I do not think her character, Anne Juergens, could handle any more in her life right now.

Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss Gets Engaged

Published by Rachel under Primetime Drama Edit This

Elisabeth Moss Mad Men actress, Elisabeth Moss, has just gotten engaged this week to none other than boyfriend, Fred Armisen of Saturday Night Live.

There is no date given as to when the wedding shall take place but the actress revealed that the engagement happened just a few days ago.

The couple refused to share the details, and Elisabeth Moss has been quoted as saying —

“It’s private, so I don’t want to share the details of how it happened, but I will say it was perfect.”

Have they been dating long or is this a whirlwind courtship? This should surprise a lot of people as the news about them dating only hit papers last week. And then a week after that, here it comes — the engagement news!

The actress is nominated for the Best Supporting  trophy in this Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Everything’s coming up roses for this lady. Congratulations!

United States of Tara Ratings High

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Showtime’s newest series, United States of Tara, has premiered to really impressive ratings with 881,000 viewers the other night. This is according to the figures from Neilsen Media Research.  This makes UST,  a better performing new show and has pulled into the rankings higher than Showtime’s other shows when they first launched, like Dexter and Californication.

Watching the series, I can’t help but notice actress Toni Colette (Tara) who was really in her element.  Her role calls for her to do three other people in Tara’s head.

United States of Tara

And you know what? She is really fantastic!

Diablo Cody is the writer of this show, in fact, she is the brainchild of it. One of Tara’s miltiple personalities seemed to have been pattered by Diablo in real life. The girl’s spunky character in the series is really a joy to watch.

Meet Lady Jack Bauer

Female Jack Bauer

I’m beginning to understand what the producers of this show were saying about 24 getting a reboot. Everything about it is quite old, as this is Day 7 and we fans are pretty used to the whole idea of the show. But everything about it is new again, too.

We now have the new team (FBI instead of CTU), the new office (bright and light FBI Office instead of dim CTU), the lady president (instead of men presidents the entire series since this) and the surprise of it all, the female FBI agent, Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), who surprisingly moves and thinks like Jack Bauer. And you know what? I am loving her.

Producers of the show have described her character as this —

“She is somebody who has probably pressed up against the limitations of what’s been allowed [according to the law]. Her soul is in balance is the question. Is it worth doing whatever’s necessary at the personal price it extracts?”

Doesn’t that sound like how one would describe Jack Bauer, too?

More than once in the last 5 hours (or 5 episodes), she has disregarded her boss, followed up on her hunch and went ahead and executed her own brand of justice with a suspect. She is what’s giving us what Jack cannot give now that Jack is no longer at CTU.

Last we viewers have seen of her is she was being buried alive by Jack and Tony. And knowing how this show goes, she will live and then walk as if without a scratch or trauma. The interesting part is in knowing how she’ll do it.

Drop Dead Diva Comes in Summer

Published by Rachel under New To TV Edit This

Brooke ElliotDrop Dead Diva, a 12 episode show which stars Brooke Elliott, has been picked up by Lifetime for a summer season run this year. It was originally intended to air on Fox.

The series, created by Josh Berman in support by Sony Pictures TV is about a vapid and beautiful model aspirant who dies in a car accident. In a twist, her body becomes reincarnated to that of Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott), a smart lawyer who is kinda of overweight.

Lifetime is thrilled to have this one calling the show touching, funny and clever. Lifetime’s VP says —-

“It’s the type of show that truly enhances the Lifetime brand — the duality of emotionally compelling drama with an equal balance of humor,”

Brooke Elliot is a theater veteran who has appeared in stage presentations such as “The Pirate Queen,” “Wicked” and “Taboo.”
