The Women at the SAG

sag-awards.jpg

The list of nominees for the Screen Actors Guild Awards in the TV category springs no big surprises. Most TV viewers expect the names to be there anyway; we’d be more surprised if names like Tina Fey or Kyra Sedgwick aren’t included on the list.

The inclusion of Elizabeth Moss though, is a wonder for some people, though. She is one of the female stars of Mad Men. But since the show itself isn’t a popular with the general viewing public, there seems to be no buzz at all for this lady. Which makes the TV category very predictable this year…and I don’t know if what sounds better — big, shocking and upsetting surprises or no surprises at all?

Here are the list of nominees for the Female Category:

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series

  • SALLY FIELD / Nora Walker - “BROTHERS & SISTERS” (ABC)
  • MARISKA HARGITAY / Det. Olivia Benson - “LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT” (NBC)
  • HOLLY HUNTER / Grace Hanadarko - “SAVING GRACE” (TNT)
  • ELISABETH MOSS / Peggy Olson - “MAD MEN” (AMC)
  • KYRA SEDGWICK / Dep. Chief Brenda Johnson - “THE CLOSER” (TNT)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series

  • CHRISTINA APPLEGATE / Samantha Newly - “SAMANTHA WHO?” (ABC)
  • AMERICA FERRERA / Betty Suarez - “UGLY BETTY” (ABC)
  • TINA FEY / Liz Lemon - “30 ROCK” (NBC)
  • MARY-LOUISE PARKER / Nancy Botwin - “WEEDS” (Showtime)
  • TRACEY ULLMAN / Various Characters - “TRACEY ULLMAN’S STATE OF THE UNION” (Showtime)

The winners will be awarded their trophies on Sunday, January 25 in a live telecast.

Brittany McKey Sullivan is Next Top Model

McKey Top ModelAmerica’s Next Top Model crowned their 11th winner in the final episode that aired last November 19th. Brittany McKey Sullivan, a boxing enthusiast bested other aspirants and is this year’s Top Model.

Only 19 years old, the former self-confessed tomboy from Illinois defeated Samantha Potter with her memorable poses and unique runway struts. The stunner was built for high fashion modelling.

Of her win, she says —

“I’m so proud of myself right now, this was the last thing for me, I was going to try out and this was going to be it. Now I’m America’s Next Top Model and from here this isn’t the end. I’m going to keep going and keep rising, it’s just like a dream come true.”

Tyra Banks, the show’s creator, producer and host, tells McKey —

“You didn’t just serve dress, you served face.”

As this year’s winner, McKey will be awarded a $100,000 modelling contract and a spread in a top magazine, among other perks.

Girl Power at the Emmy’s

Christina ApplegateTina Fey is probably still up in the clouds enjoying her celebratory win for 30 Rock, the show she created some three years ago. It earned Best Comedy the second time around and Tina Fey also won her acting trophy for it.

But the other brightest star for me is Christina Applegate who has recently battled with the cancer. She appeared on stage looking really beautiful and in the pink of health. I don’t think it matters she lost to Tina Fey.
