Women of The View Get Along Fine

Published by Rachel under Daytime TV Edit This

With their constant bickering and shouting matches on TV, one would wonder if the women of The View are ever really friendly with each other in real life. When the cameras are off and their isn’t an audience in front of them, what are they like to each other?

According to Barbra Walters, they are happy with each other’s company and are getting along fine. She says in an interview —

“I don’t know of any five women who get along as well as we do.”

She continues to say, they see each other outside of work. And in fact just had dinner with Whoopi and Joy  (Elisabeth and Sherry were sick). They will also be having a Christmas get together at Whoopi’s soon.

Barbra Walters think their show’s success is because of this kind of friendship —

“We’re happy and the show’s success reflects that.”

Elisabeth Hasselback — Feisty or Pity?

Published by Rachel under Daytime TV Edit This

Elisabeth HasselbackHave you been following the drama on The View? The one with the women ganging up on Elisabeth Hasselbeck leaving her really upset about it? Reports via TMZ also say the drama even extended backstage with Joy allegedly confronting Elisabeth. Both denied the incident happened.

I don’t follow The View a lot but these women have been going at it the last couple of weeks. Election does that to people, which is partly why I don’t want to watch when they are butting heads about it. I’m one of those who just don’t care about politics.

Anyway,  what is your opinion of Elisabeth? Is she feisty or does she deserve pity? I mean, to be working in an environment where you’re aware some people are hostile towards you…how can you stand to go to work everyday? But on the other hand, she also has every right to stand for what she believes in…and the show seems like a good platform to do so.

If you were in her shoes, would you quit The View?

The View Women are TV’s Mean Girls according to Star Jones

Published by Rachel under Daytime TV Edit This

Star Jones

In an interview with Essence Magazine for its November issue, Star Jones speaks of her former The View co-hosts saying “Those girls were hateful”.

The TV personality, who left the show in 2006 following a series of events both personal and professional, is still in disputes with the show’s producers and Barbara Walters.

She was said to be battling with depression related to her weight problems while on the show and when she announced her intention to leave in 2006, she felt she was turned against by her View co-hosts .

Star Jones is currently working on a TV comeback via a non-scripted TV series.

The Ladies of The View Get Personal

Published by Rachel under Daytime TV Edit This

Politics always has a way with getting on people’s nerves. If there is anything else that causes a lot of disruption in discussions next to religion, politics seems to be one I’d like to steer away from. You just know this is one topic where everyone won’t ever agree to disagree.

But with the election only weeks away, it’s a subject people can’t get off their minds.

The women of The View, have, for days, been holding quite an interesting discussion when it comes to the election, that somehow the intelligent exchange of ideas always ends up with these women bickering on television. Even Sherry Shepard, who usually is always the most passive one, challenged and confronted Elisabeth Hasselbeck (the only Republican in this panel).

It’s a slugfest over at The View!

Ellen DeGeneres is the new Cover Girl

She doesn’t seem to particularly wear make up a lot. And her wife is so much more model-esque than her. But Ellen DeGeneres has snagged a six-figure contract to endorse Cover Girl cosmetics. Her ads should begin running by January of next year.

The 50 year old popular daytime television talk show host and comedianne, who is still looking quite young in spite of her age, announced this on her show the other day.

Ellen DeGeneres Cover Girl

“They’re putting some lip liner on me. Man, they love lip liner. I got hours and hours with that girl. She was just there for lip liner. I am very, very excited about it. It’s a very cool thing I’m honored and the photo shoot was “easy, breezy, beautiful … CoverGirl.”

Here’s the video of her announcing this modeling gig:

Oprah welcomes Team USA in her season opener

Published by Rachel under Daytime TV Edit This

One of the reasons why Oprah’s talkshow is losing viewers these days is because she has stopped becoming relevant or rather, the show itself has stopped tackling relevant issues. But maybe that is going to change as her show is going to welcome another season with 176 guests. Oprah has invited all of Team USA’s 176 Olympic champions, including the legendary Michael Phelps.

Oprah with Team USA Olympics

They will all appear on Oprah’s new fall season premiere, slated to air this month.

The episode has already been pre-taped at Chicago’s Millenium Park, with all the athletes marching amidst a rain of red, white and blue confettis and a crowd widely cheering for them.

Oprah told her guests this: “I speak for millions of Americans when I say, Team USA, you made us stand taller.”

In the audience was Mayor Daley and Marland Easter who is spearheading the campaign to bringing Olympics to Chicago in 2016.

Meet the new brides!

Ellen and Portia

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi had a solemn wedding at their Beverly Hills estate over the weekend. The hush-hush affair was said to attended by only about 19 to 30 people close to the couple, none of them were big time celebrities, as per reports from People Magazine.

The couple has been together since December of 2004.

In May of this year and after the US Supreme Court altered its ruling on gay marriage, Ellen made an announcement on her show that she was going to marry her partner. Her bride to be was in the audience, overwhelmed with tears.

At the wedding, both women wore matching outfits by designer Zac Posen. Portia (who is now legally known as Portia De Rossi DeGeneres, de wife of de Daytime Talk Show Emmy winner) was in a lovely wedding gown, while Ellen wore the pants. (Hey, Ellen! Luke Skywalker called and he wants his clothes back!)

Ah, I kid about it but I want to wish these two the best. May they live a very happy long life together.

Living Like Oprah

Published by Rachel under Daytime TV Edit This

A 35-year old writer who has a masters degree in Fine Arts is spending 40hours a week watching Oprah, reading her magazines and following her every advice!

The writer is committed to doing this as an experiment for one year, saying, “I wonder, will I find bliss if I commit wholeheartedly to her lifestyle suggestions?”

Excerpts from the New York Times:

Oprah says What?!She follows the commandments of Ms. Winfrey with an exacting attention. If Oprah were to tell viewers that they must see “27 Dresses,” “I go do it,” Ms. Okrant said. “If she merely says, ‘Mary J. Blige’s CD’s are in stores today,’ I don’t buy it.”

“With some of the things, like the clothes, in the beginning I was like, ‘How dare she tell me what to wear! I’m an individual!’But recently, when I went shopping with my mom, I was really excited to fulfill some of the rules. I felt kind of proud of myself. It takes a huge amount of pressure off to be handed a spiritual path.”

There’s almost nothing Ms. Okrant doesn’t consult Oprah about. If she has a fight with her husband, she looks up “conflict management” on the Oprah Web site. When she needs to cover the gray in her now glossy curls, she uses the hair dye that was recommended in the August 2008 issue of Ms. Winfrey’s magazine.

Ms. Okrant says she embarked on the project because she saw many women believing that every word of Ms. Winfrey’s was gospel. She hoped to learn why her words carried such weight, even when they were contradictory at times.

To date, she has spent some $2,000 (P88,000 more or less) living and breathing Oprah. She has documented everything on her site, when she began this project in January 2008.

Yeah, I know. Even Oprah can’t believe it.
