Don’t Forget Tonight’s Privileged Season Finale

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Freshman series Privileged ends tonight, on it’s 18th episode. I’ve been enjoying the light drama and comedy of this show so much, I am hoping it gets renewed for a second season run.

The finale episode is entitled “All About A Brand New You” and while it may allude to the changes lead character, Megan Smith, is going through in the personal and romantic department, the rest of the characters are also going to have to get through changes in their own lives.

For instance, Rose and Sage will be spending their Spring Breaks separately for the first time. The twins’ personal relationships with their boyfriends will also have its own dramas and issues to deal with. Marco, Megan’s best friend in the Baker estate is about to get married to his lifepartner and Megan’s father is struggling with issues about her mother yet again.

Here is the sneak peek to Privileged’s season finale tonight:

The Starter Wife is Canceled!

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

USA Network has decided to not renew The Starter Wife for another season. It should be recalled that this show was originally intended to be a mini-series presentation only, but the network thought to extend it with another season.

Truth be told, it was better off as a six-part series. At least that one had a more coherent, tighter story-line. It was even nominated for a Golden Globe (and I think won some, too). It was that clever.

When it had its 10 episode run as a regular series afterwards, it lost its edge and quality. While I still did enjoy it, they made too many changes in the story that it wasn’t as smartly written as the first offerings.

Starter Wife

So, now the cable network is canceling the program citing that it wasn’t rating as well as they have hoped. This should have been fine for me, except that when they left the show so open-ended, it’s too bad the viewers are left with no closure.

Ugly Betty Staying or Going?

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Ugly Betty

When it was announced last week that Ugly Betty was going on an unexpected hiatus, curious minds wondered if this was a sign the show was going to end its run on ABC. Did ABC lost confidence on it? I didn’t realize that Ugly Betty was in danger as I wasn’t keenly aware how it was rating. The show, to me, continues to be very entertaining and I have been enjoying the third season so much.

But fans of the series should remain hopeful. According to this source, Ugly Betty and a few other ABC programs are close to getting a renewal. But executives of the network have yet to confirm this.

But should ABC set their sights on revamping their Thursday time slot next season, I think we’ll be following Ugly Betty on a different day then. Which is fine, right? As long as it’s going to be back.

Samantha Who? Moves To Thursday Nights

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Samantha Who?

Some schedule changes are in order for ABC, the Disney-owned television network.

Samantha Who?, the series starring Christina Applegate, is moving to Thursday Nights at 8:30 PM, and will be paired back to back with In The Motherhood, which comes on at 8:00 PM. Motherhood is this new TV program starring Megan Mullally, Cheryl Hines and Horatio Sanz.

The move and the pair up sounds like a good plan. Samantha Who? has quite a following with its demographics. It should serve as good support for the freshman series starring Mullally.

Meanwhile, because of this changes, bumped off the schedule is the America Ferrera comedy, Ugly Betty, which will be placed on hiatus. There is no scheduled date as to when it will return as of yet.

The changes will take place March 26th.

United States of Tara Ratings High

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Showtime’s newest series, United States of Tara, has premiered to really impressive ratings with 881,000 viewers the other night. This is according to the figures from Neilsen Media Research.  This makes UST,  a better performing new show and has pulled into the rankings higher than Showtime’s other shows when they first launched, like Dexter and Californication.

Watching the series, I can’t help but notice actress Toni Colette (Tara) who was really in her element.  Her role calls for her to do three other people in Tara’s head.

United States of Tara

And you know what? She is really fantastic!

Diablo Cody is the writer of this show, in fact, she is the brainchild of it. One of Tara’s miltiple personalities seemed to have been pattered by Diablo in real life. The girl’s spunky character in the series is really a joy to watch.

Laura Pepron Guest Stars on HIMYM

Published by Rachel under Primetime Comedy Edit This

Laura Pepron HIMYM

For every female guest star that is reported to be coming on board How I Met Your Mother, there is only one question in viewer’s minds: Could she be Mother? Naturally, with Laura Pepron’s scheduled guest appearance on the show the question also lingers: Could she be Mother?

According to EW, the actress is to appear in about five episodes on the show, as one of Ted’s ex-girlfriends from school who hooks up with him again. Her character is described as a beautiful snooty cheater.

It’s highly unlikely that this is the kind of “Mother” Ted marries, but we never know with this show, don’t we.

Laura Pepron was one of the stars of the canceled series That 70’s Show and October Road. I’ve not seen a lot of her work, but I’m picturing her with the cast of HIMYM and I am very excited about seeing her with them.

Ashley Jensen Leaving Ugly Betty

Ashley Jensen

Betty lost the men in her life…now, she must prepare to lose her best friend.

According to E! Scottish actress Ashley Jensen, who plays Betty’s best friend Christina on Ugly Betty, has asked to leave the show. But sources say that while this is what she wants, the show will not completely scrap her off the picture. There are still plans to have her reappear in the fourth season (next fall), possibly. Only not as a series regular.

In the current season, her character has been seen less and less on television. If not because she is carrying the spawn of Wilhelmina (and they had to play that story out in three to four episodes) Christina would have been less visible a long time ago. I think I’d understand why she would want to leave.

Would you want a Christina leave Betty?

Edited to add news update: Ashley Jensen’s reps deny she is quitting.

Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz is Pregnant

If Hollywood couples aren’t breaking up with each other, they’re making babies! From one pregnant TV star (which I posted yesterday) to the other….Ugly Betty’s older sister, Hilda, also known as Ana Ortiz in real life, is going to be one beautiful expectant mother!

She and husband Noah Lebezon (he of Half-Life band fame, as guitarist) are excited to welcome their very first baby very soon. Her due date is slated sometime July.

The couple has been trying to get pregnant. Last September, Ana has been quoted in interviews saying having kids is what she and her husband talks about all the time.

Would Ana’s pregnancy matter to the series, Ugly Betty? By spring, she would have to be showing and I’m pretty sure they have a few more episodes left to shoot, to end the season. I think we’re going to see more of Ana standing behind tables, or full of close ups instead of body shots.

I wish her and her family well. Congratulations to the parents-to-be!

Worst Week Actress Erinn Hayes Pregnant In Real Life

Just as her character on the freshmen sitcom, Worst Week, is expecting her first child, Erinn Hayes, who is married to construction superintendent Jack Hayes in real life, has announced via People Magazine, that she is also in the family way.

Her real life pregnancy coincides with that of her TV life pregnancy, prompting the actress to comment in jest —  “I’m nothing if not an opportunist.”

The Hayes already have a  1½-year-old baby girl named Maggie.

Erinn Hayes

Worst Week, which premiered during the fall, is about one man’s way of wooing his fiancee’s family. It’s a lot similar to the movie, Meet The Parents. I would have stuck with watching it since the characters are actually funny. But the process got pretty tiring for me quickly (I mean, how many more bad lucks can the lead guy get into?), I gave up watching after six episodes I think.

Worst Week is currently on hiatus. But there is also no word as to whether it will progress to a second season.
